The Society of Drawn Weapons: A mysterious collective of cartoonists based in College Hill, Rhode Island. In ritual fashion, they release a biannual publication of comics and illustrations to promote emerging young artists in their community.
This society was founded last year by my colleague Reiley Johnson and myself after I mentioned how I had always wanted to start a secret society (since RISD doesn't seem to have one... that I know of, anyway). We also knew a lot of people making great comics that we believed deserved to be shared with the world, so we decided to form the Society of Drawn Weapons as a platform for our friends and classmates.
Last fall, we released our first issue, KEEP THIS A SECRET!, which featured work by eighteen young artists at RISD surrounding the theme of secrets. Below are a few images of the finished product, along with some of the posters, borders, spot illustrations, and cover designs I created for the anthology.
